Health Provision became one of the largest devolved functions following the promulgation of Kenya’s 2010 constitution. However, in all the 47 counties, the health sector continues to experience monumental challenges ranging from capacity gaps, human resource deficiency, lack of critical legal and institutional infrastructure and a conflictual relationship with the national Government from the supply side, while the demand side is faced with challenges of accessibility, affordability and quality. Poor health erodes the amount of disposable household income for families and exacerbates the level of poverty among households. On the other hand, a healthy citizenry contributes to the Gross Domestic Product thus increase the level of national development index. AiRDT subscribes to the school of thought that ‘a Healthy Nation is a rich Nation’ and has committed to play a part in supporting the sector through;
- Promoting preventive health care services; holding free medical camps for communities, schools and institutions of higher learning. In order to achieve this, AiRDT will establish strategic partnerships with the County and National Governments, health-based organizations and personnel from the local health facilities.
- Contributing towards the improvement of health infrastructure including medical facilities and equipment.
- Supporting the provision of community health education including prevention and treatment of common diseases and ailments. AiRDT also works in partnership with Government and Private medical facilities for referral of acute medical cases.
Providing support to County and National Governments during times of on emergency such as floods, hunger and disease outbreak among others.
